FORTHCOMING SPLIT 7" WITH BLACK FEELINGS ON WE-BE RECORDS...
SEPTEMBER 2009
Hi all. Brief update time.
ATP in May was a blast. We contracted several illnesses and are still getting over them. Thank YOU for voting for us, thank YOU for getting up at 2.30 to watch us, thanks to all the staff and to Deborah, Barry and Shaun for their help. If we met you, we're sorry, we're over 30 and we can't drink anyore. Harvey Milk, The Jesus Lizard, Devo and Sleep melted our collective faces, Pete and Henry O on the merch tickled our funny boners and Iain Chimp made us all feel like it was going to be OK, which is a rare gift at about 1 in the morning after you've been on Organic Cider since breakfast.
If you saw us and didn't dig it, that's fine. Maybe we're just not for you? We're not paying anyone to foist us upon yourselves so don't be angry. Just move along, nothing to see here. This especially applies to reviewers: sincerely, thanks but no thanks. We're too crumbly these days to actively seek people's attention but on the flipside, we're super appreciative if you want to give us it. We just don't need the printed word part of it.
Now, was that our last gig? Well... maybe. We're not keen to make it that way but circumstances dictate that playing again in the near future is going to be hard. We really appreciate gig offers and we love playing live but for us to do a one-off would cost a fortune as Elv is in Ireland, Phil in Bradford and me in Nottm. Plus we'd have to practise (hard to believe I know) and then transport our stupid penis-substitute backline to wherever the gig is.
So, it's not inconceivable but it's hard. Bear with us, we're working on it.
There has been a little chat about a gig or 2 around Xmas, we'll see.
What we ARE doing for sure is more recording and record-releasing.
We finished a new song entitled "Space And Death Recipe" for release on the We Be Label. Label co-owner Dan and me go back years and so we're super chuffed to be involved in what will be the label's second release. It's going to be a split single with Canadian krauty-psychers Black Feelings who sound rather splendid. Our song is a total fucking belter, confirmed. A cross between our own Royal Throne and Radar Love. With some wah. And singing about excretion. All the details are here: www.weberecords.com. We even got to master it at Abbey Rd where (I shit you negative) I saw Paul McCartney in the corridor on the phone.
Remember what Svenonius said: RPM - Reconsider Paul McCartney!
We also threw down an impromptu recording of ZZ Top's Precious & Grace which we've snuck into our live set a few times, seemingly oblivious to QOTSA, Dethscalator and Brother Chris Brokaw covering it too. This might see some sort of release, we'll see if we can finish it. If we can't expect us to bully Chua into singing on it and you'll see it come out under the Felix name.
Plans are afoot for a new album whenever we can get time to record it. Provisionally entitled "The Egg & Other Stories" it may be accompanied by a book of short tales by Welding with pics by me. That's the plan. Somewhere in Nottingham, Matt Gringo of Newnham Records is reading this news for the first time and his head is whistling like a kettle.
We demoed 7 songs and we have more to go. Slightly annoyingly with our current "can't gig" issues, the songs kick 100% of the arse. The whole thing. Dual buttocks. Can't wait to get them down properly...
That's about it from us.
Our related bands have a plethora of records and gigs coming up:
Felix is Elvin and myself with our dear friend, photographer and Lords turd-polisher Lucinda Chua and our first record, entitled "You Are The One I Pick" is set for release on CD/LP on Nov 2 on the Kranky label out of Chicago. To say we're all stoked would be an understatement. The recording of this album is the best advert imaginable for the wonderful DIY musical network that exists in the UK and to have it picked up by a label we love is a good 'un. Expect some touring...
Kogumaza (pronounced Ko Guma Za) is folks from Bob Tilton, Wolves Of Greece, Little Girl With Cherries and more. We've recorded 2 seven inches of songs for release on the Lancashire & Somerset and Low Point labels respectively. Many gigs are afoot so click the band name to be transported to the wonderful world of Myspace.
Stage Blood finally have songs recorded so click on the band name and we're off on a microtour with Danananackroyd in October which will see me finally perfect my fake Glaswegian accent.
Loves,

APRIL 15TH 2009
Lordly brothers and sisters. With the exception of the ATP Vs The Glands festival appearance in a couple of weeks, other business has put paid to a flurry of Lordular gig activity. We apologise but confirm that we will deliver 45 whole minutes of pant-soiling rock in Minehead to compensate. We look forward to seeing you.
This non-gig-based period has however meant that we can get on with other things. Firstly, we demoed about 7 new songs with the intention of somehow getting them together into album form sometime before the world ends. They sound mighty. We will be playing at least a handful of them at Minehead. You will know them from their confusion and looseness.
There have been many other developments of a non-Lordy basis. Here are some of them...
Lord Philip hired a castle - yes, a f*cking CASTLE - and married Lady Joanne last week. Featuring Led Zeppelin karaoke and a cocktail that involved blending a blender. Also featuring light tears, heavy emotion and all round good feelings.
Here our Doctor of Sonic Waveforms, Lord Mark Simms, enjoys the bar:
Philip is currently in Mick Jagger's pad in Marakesh. Strangely, this is not a lie.
Philip also put together his first photography exhibition in January exploring the world of stationary stationery. www.philipwelding.co.uk will sort you out:
Elvis has been doing some of this:
plenty of this:
and a lot of this:
He told us he was moving to Ireland but turns out he lives on Mars:
September hopefully sees a minature hybrid version of Elvis and Jo enter the world. That's right, not only is Elvis a good cook, a dab hand with DIY, an above-average drummer and a great surfer but he also has a fully working set of plums. Congratulations Elv and Jo!
Though Lordy activities have been slender, Elvis and myself have a new record out soon thanks to our involvement in the lovely FELIX. Here we are trying not to look too old:
Our first album, You Are The One I Pick, is due for release on the splendid Kranky label out of Chicago later this year. We are duly honoured, chuffed and excited to be on the same label as so many awesome bands past and present. Go looksy: www.kranky.net
Live dates will surely follow once we work out how to replicate the 14 guitar parts and 76 cello parts on every song in a live format.
I'm also involved in a new band called KOGUMAZA. It's a 3 piece with Neil from Bob Tilton/Wolves Of Greece taking up the other guitar duties and Ms Katharine Eira Brown wo-manning the echo drumkit. Inspired by Neil and me's involvement with composer Glenn Branca as well as the inevitable Lungfish, Velvets, Sabbath etc we just did a few shows with Zomes, the new project from Asa Osborne and we had fun. We are recording a seven inch single for the Low Point label once we figure out how to do what we've got in mind. In the meantime we're playing live this weekend:
FRIDAY APRIL 17TH
BIRMINGHAM HARE & HOUNDS with EARTH and STEBMO
SATURDAY APRIL 18TH
LONDON CROSS KINGS with QUACK QUACK and EMBERS
I've also been enjoying the naughty thrill of playing indie rock in standard tuning as a member of Glasgow's STAGE BLOOD with fellows from Eska and Mogwai. We even recorded some tunes. Not to mention got involved in a bizarre ruck at Toddington Services with the Nottingham branch of the Discharge Fan Club. Oh well. More gigs planned. Here is some shaky video from our recent Nottingham gig:
Some fun music was made with PW Long late last year as well but time and a distinct lack of timekeepers meant little of it went to tape. The future should see that changed one way or another which is grand news as Preston has some genius ideas up his sleeve. In the meantime, have a look at some films he's been working on:

If you're in the US of A be sure to go and see Sonic Boom's Spectrum on tour in May. Our friend Jason is ably handling the guitar duties on a Fender Jaguar he's borrowed off me, so my guitar gets to tour the US before I do. Should be killer.

MARCH 4 2009
News. Brief-style. We spent a week recording demos for new stuff with a view to a split single later this year put together by our friends at We Be Records. We churned and polished about 7 new song-snippets that have been kicking around for a while.
We're taking it easy right now, gig-wise. We have one live show lined up and that's thanks to YOU as we're playing ATP Vs The Fans on May 9th alongside (but hopefully not at the same time) as THE JESUS LIZARD, SLEEP, DEVO, HARVEY MILK and more. Come see us whydontcha? Click the link above to get yourself a ticket. Don't be text-massaging us on the day to try and get in either as we all ate our mobile phones.
